Here’s why we went through Boone: it’s the Samaritan’s Purse headquarters! We went on a tour and had lunch with the Children’s Heart Project travel coordinator, Ruthie. From our brief interactions I knew we had lots in common. Meeting her in person was so fun!
I first heard about Samaritan’s Purse while doing an article on the 2005 Operarion Christmas Child shoebox drive. More recently I’ve written articles about the Children’s Heart Project.
Then last night I got assigned a topic for my September SpouseBuzz post that, while important, I didn’t know how to approach. The SP tour gave me an idea, I fired a shot in the dark, and boom—within an hour I had sit down interviews with two people perfect for my assigned topic. I prayed for direction on this just last night, but this tour had been set up for weeks. Manifest Destiny—ha!
Then we drove through rain, swirling fog, and the twists and turns of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Yesterday we crossed the Eastern Continental Divide; today we passed Mt. Mitchell, which is both the highest peak of the Appalachians and highest point in North America east of the Mississippi River.
Chris had the idea to stop at the Moses Cone Manor and it was breathtaking—classic wisps of clouds floated over the descending hills, a gray-green pond cupped between emerald slopes.
