Where Globe-Trotting meets Beach-Combing

August 24, 2010 deployment

Newest Warlord in the Western Pacific

Scales and samurai swords adorn the side of the new Warlord 700, HSL-51’s newest show bird. When Chris comes come I’m going to have our car painted the same way! Get ready!! I appreciate that Chris’ squadron takes the trouble to invite us spouses to various events and activities like this even when our Warlords are gone. At first I thought, “Maybe they don’t really mean it and I’ll be the only spouse there and feel silly and someone will say, ‘Bridget Jones, get out of here. You are ridiculous!’ ” I was the only person to show up to some flight school award ceremony and I did in fact feel extremely ridiculous. To make it worse, the CO made a fuss over my being there because everyone was surprised someone actually showed up. Very embarrassing. However, that is not the case out here in WESTPAC (Western Pacific). We are far more inclusive and no one feels ridiculous for attending things even sans-spouse. I think it’s important to turn up when invited because it says I appreciate the invitation and would like to continue to be invited. When Chris is gone it helps me feel more plugged in to…I don’t know…humanity at large I guess and specifically what he’s doing here. Plus, I like to represent Team Krueger so people don’t forget about us. All that from a helicopter’s bright new paint job!
