Where Globe-Trotting meets Beach-Combing

June 5, 2014 Family

Summertime!

Florida Scoop?! I wish! Turns out the Scoop’s American twin is available to rent at Pensacola Beach!
Blue Wahoos Stadium, May 2014

We got our verbal orders to Norfolk an hour and a half before our squadron’s hail and farewell Memorial Day weekend. Surprise! We’re leaving too! My jaw hurt and I’d skipped lunch thanks to some dental work, so I was so hungry I couldn’t see straight. Everything was sunnier one Philly cheese steak later and we commenced farewelling the Steffens, Cascis, etc. The deck was right between the ball field and Pensacola Bay, with a fantastic sea breeze that only became problematic when we ordered ice cream cones and they melted down our elbows. I think we caught one play of the game, but hey, going to a game was on our list of things to do this summer. Check!

Pensacola Beach with Grandma!

“It’s nice that when I come to visit we don’t really have to plan anything because we enjoy the same things,” said my mom a few weeks ago. We went to the beach, had tea, went to the beach again, made lovely dinners, and figured out several new ways to totally crack up the tot. Cutting construction paper ranks high in the hilarity category, as does bopping a ball around the bathtub. Now he calls me Mom, Dad or Grandma pretty much interchangeably. If our two year old can’t get our names right, there’s no hope for us; Chris, Isaac and Pounce all get called the wrong thing. It’s tradition!

Do we look alike?

A whole pod of dolphins played right offshore most of the time we were there. I’ve never seen so much wild dolphin activity. They jumped, played, splashed, and chased each other around, it looked like. And it wasn’t that far offshore, which makes you wonder…if animals that big are this close and I can see them, what can’t I see…? Then we had grilled shrimp caesar salad and fried pickles at Flounders! As always, it’s fun to have lots of time with my MOM.

Now we need to head back to the beach asap; we only have until Independence Day to enjoy it!
