Where Globe-Trotting meets Beach-Combing

July 10, 2010 Australia

Symmetry

I like symmetry—who doesn’t? On our way to the taiko performance Chrissy and I were sitting next to each other on the bus exactly like we were a year and a day previously as we rode the Narita Express home after flying from Perth to Tokyo. Right side of the vehicle, Mari on the right, Chrissy on the left. We had half an hour before the drumming started so we hopped across the street to Yamashita Park to get something to eat. I sipped my coconut pineapple smoothie as we walked back outside. “Heeeeey,” I looked across the bay to the Yokohama Bay Bridge. “This kind of reminds me of that picture of our breakfast in front of the Sydney Harbor Bridge.” I appreciated the symmetry of all this. Tonight as I rifled through my Australia pictures to find the look-alike shots even more photos began to match up. Today I took a picture of some Japanese postcards and a pretty ceiling. I found identical photos from Sydney exactly a year ago. Surprise! I’m really predictable!
