The World Goes Around - Passport Diaries

It’s the last night of the year! Simon, Katrina, Carsen, Canon and Case arrived for several days of Crowded House shenanigans. The cousins bounced on the trampoline, climbed way up in the trees, chased and ran, napped hard, and loved the together time. The adults stayed up late playing Time’s Up and Loaded Questions. Zap Cash!

Traditionally, I like to think about and discuss highs and lows of the year on New Year’s Eve.

Highs of the year include our September trip to Alaska to see the rest of the cousins, visiting with family over the holidays, road tripping to Upstate New York this summer, floating around in our canoe, tea parties with the best neighbors ever and Eloise starting to sleep through the night in June. Also being on the front page of the newspaper when Chris deployed on Eloise’s first birthday. And some exciting new writing opportunities! More on that in the coming year!

Low points of the year would be last January when Chris was gone: Eloise pooped every two hours around the clock and I was potty training Isaac alone. Shudder. Someone was always pooping and someone was always crying. That was a hard month. Other lows include Eloise being so so so sick in April (while Chris was gone), and Chris being gone for the holidays.

Some of my very favorite parts of the year were just watching my kids interact. Isaac is so sweet to Eloise. And while Eloise has taken steps here and there, tonight she took one of her longest string of steps—unprompted—to Isaac. They just adore each other. That delights me to no end.

All in all, it’s been a pretty GREAT year!
